GENERAL NEWS.
The monthly meeting- of the D.I.G. Social Club took place on Wednesday last in the Somerset Lounge, Savoy. A varied and interesting programme was rendered by the following;—Piano solo. Miss Bain; violin solo, Miss Baird; songs. Misses Miller, Hearns, M'Allum, Messrs Wells and Belcher; novelty whistling solo, Miss Napier; item, “ Choosing a Hat,” Mrs Murray. During the evening a discussion took place concerning the efficiency _of drapery staffs in New Zealand. The majority favoured the contention that the drapery firms of to-day had a capable and zealous force of assistants. The annual meeting of the Baptist combined Bible classes was held at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Roslyn. yesterday, the president (Mr Gordon Hendry) occupying the chair. After the singing of a number of hymns and choruses, led by Mr V. T. Drew, the business of the afternoon took place. The prinicpal speaker was the Rev. L. J. B. Smith, who spoke on “ Mustering Our Forces.” The address dealt with the undoubted challenge existing for ail young men to-day, and the necessity for them to put into practice the principles professed. Mr Gordon Hendry was re-elected president, and Mr D. Winder secretary, the vice-presi-dents being the Revs. L. J. B. Smitb and Eric Evans, and Messrs V. Drew and W. -s. It was decided to leave the matter of the committee to individual classes, each class having the right to nominate one mem her. At the quarterly meeting which followed much business was transacted. The following classes %v->re represented: Rodyn, Morning-ton. Caversham, South Dunedin. Hanover Street, and North-East Valiev. Tea was served by a committee of ladies in the Roslyn Church at the close many of those present remaining to the evening service.
