NEW ZEALAND AND SCHOOL CHILDREN.
A USEFUL PUBLICITY CHANNEL. (From OuiP. Own Correspondent.) LONDON, May 8. It is very evident that publicity through the channels of schools is going to have a useful influence, so keen are the children to know more about the distant countries of the British Empire. In “The Teachers' World" just lately one little announcement was inserted by the iNow Zealand Publicity Officer, that the dominion would bo glad to let any schools have some photographs to hang in the classrooms if they were interested in the suggestion. The teachers have simply jumped at the offer, and in a fortnight the High Commissioner's Office had 11268 applications from all over the country. On one day alone the postbag brought in requests from ■It a teachers. There are not at the moment, enough pictures on hand to seupply the demand so a cable has gone to New Zealand for more, of an up-to-date and attractive kind suitable for the purpose. It is not at all unlikely that the subject of New Zealand will bo kept in the forefront by the delivery of lantern-lectures to the children, if these are sought. WemVdey, this year, is sues to arouse an even moro keen desire for information. Mr J. Balfour, an official of the Publicity Department, when to Aylsham, near Norwich, last week, to give a lantern lecture the dominion. This took place at the Town Hall, and was attended by a highly appreciative audience It was at the suggestion of a New Zealand lady living in Norfolk that the address was given. Mr Balfour’s next lecture will be at Felixstowe before an audience of men of tho Royal Air Force. This is one of tho coastal area stations, and the audience is bound to bo an interested one. It is very evident that the work of tho Publicity Department has only just begun. It is limited only by the size of its staff.
