Upon complaint of a neighbour the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals investigated the case of a woman of moans who placed out poisoned wheat to destroy her neighbour’s chickens. One hundred and 25 chickens were found dead the next morning. The soeiety prosecuted the woman, who was convicted in the Superior Court and fined £6O or 60 days’ imprisonment. She paid the fine.
