MOSGIEL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

The monthly meeting of the Mosgiel District High .School Committee was held last evening. Mr M’Cartney presiding. The Rector reported that the attendance had increased to 337. The number in tbe secondary department was 27. Miss Nicholson (dental nurse) had gone to Green Island. Before she returned the new room would|i)ie erected. It would therefore be wise to have the present partitions removed so as to permit the occupation of tbe room by the secondary department, and free the cookery room for cookery on Fridays and dressmaking on Tucsdavs. * New .goal posts had been erected for basket ball and football, and the ground had been levelled, making an excellent playing area. The school had secured the principal prizes at the Dunedin Winter Show, duo mainly to the efforts of Mr J. E. Smish, who was in charge of the vegetable section of the garden. Tbe school did not, however win. the shield, as reported, there being no entries in quite a number of classes. The buildings were all in good repair. The date of the lecture by the rector in aid of school requiaities was fixed for July 2, and the programme drawn up for the' occasion. The winter vactiou had been the first week of June,-and the spring vacation would be from August 24 till August 31, inclusive. —Deceived and noted. H. Smith (lion, secretary, Citraens’ Bible-in-Schools Propaganda Committee, ’Wellington), forwarded a circular letter asking committees to urge members of Parliament to support Mr Isitt’s Bible-in-Schools' Bill with a “referendum of parents” clause. In was decided by five votes to three that the committee support the proposal. A circular letter was placed before the committee soliciting subscriptions from all educational bodies throughout the dominion for financial assistance in fitting up the Education Court at the Kew Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition;—lt wa s resolved to vote £5 towards this fund. Messrs Turnbull and Millar were appointed a v.siting committee for the month of June. The secretary was instructed to write a letter of congratulation to Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., on his election as Clvvsocllor oi Vfc' University of Otago.
