ro THR EDITOR Sir, —Dr Gordon Macdonald's Jotter in the issue of the 3rd inst. is worthy of consideration, and I wish with your permission, to support his views. The Jove for highpowered engines and consequent quick movement seems to he the desideratum with the majority of motorists, and this, in conjunction with a fitting which should he abolished —namely, the foot accelerator —i.s the cause of many accidents. In a previous letter I drew attention to the ree-klesa speed of motorists in Ixiwer High street when running to and from the Hallway Station. In Princes street on race days we may ace an exhibition of speed which makes it dangerous to attempt, a crossing from one side to the other. Upper High street has now become Dunedin’s speed track ; embryo, overall clad, motor garage employees and mechanics frequently test the speed of cars there, and incidentally show off" a little, much to the danger of passengers on the Morningtnn cars. The speed fiends aic having a freelance run in Dunedin, and now an official of the Motor Club suggests teaching the children how to cross the road properly. lam no "jay walker, ’ and very often I find it difficult to cross Princes street. Under present conditions, would it not be more to the point if the Motor Ciuo combed out the speed fiends, members and non-members, and so help to remove the danger? In doing this the club would cart, the thanks of the public, which has patiently suffered speed-abuse quite long enough.
