A PERILOUS EXPERIENCE.
STEAMER OREWA’S TRIP. (Peb United Press Association.') GISBORNE, Juno 3. Information now given shows that tho small steamer Orewa, fcoimd from Auckland to Hokitika, which put into Gisborne a few days ago for repairs, had a perilous experience. The vessel was badly strained, and was making water to such an extent (hat the coal could not he taken from the b inkers in tho usual way, hut had to be taken from the hatchways on deck and carried in kerosene (ins to tho flooded stokehold. Heavy soas wore encountered, and at one time it was feared that, tho steamer would not survive, the lifeboat being got. ready for emergency. However, port'was safely readied and repairs affected, and tho vessel resumed her voyage last night.
