OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.

FIXING OF'SUMMER SHOW DATE.

Thera is do question that the fixing of the date of the Summer Show is causing the committee of the Otago A. and IJ.1 J . Society some concern, and different opinions , are being expressed among the members. Some members of the committee contend that to hold the Summer Show during the sarnie week as the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition opens would only court a failure so far as the attendance is concerned. They claim that the Dunedin public would take advantage of the halfholiday granted on the People’s Day of the Show and visit the Exhibition, and the same results would generally apply if the show were held during November. The question of extending the date to February is one that requires careful consideration, as it might seriously affect exhibitors, and must be fully considered before coming to a final decision. The directors of the Exhibition have already appealed to the society not to fix the date of the show cn the opening week of the Exhibition, and the question will come before the General Committee at the first monthly meeting. The President states that his opinion is that the question is too important for the committee finally to decide, and, would probably be referred to the annual general meeting, held during Winter Show Week, when all members would have an opportunity of expressing their views. The importance of having a special Exhibition Stock Show during the period of the Exhibition' is fully recognised, and the extending of the date until February principally affects breeders, but if everyone interested in stock would adopt the same attitude as .one exhibitor did when approached there is no fear of the result. He stated that there would be an excellent display of our manufactures and primary products at the Exhibition, and surely it was the duty of breeders and others interested m stock to see that this important section was. fully represented when an opportunity occurred, and whether the show was held in November or February, the society could rest assured that entries would be forthcoming.
