OBITUARY.

REV. R. FAIRMAID.

Wo regret to record the death, whica occurred nt Roslyn last night, of the Rev. Robert Fairmaid, for many years a wellknown figure in the Presbyterian Church in Otago. Mr Fairmaid, who was 65 years of ago, was a native of Southland, where he received his early education. Having clodded upon entering the church he came to Dunedin and attended classes in the University of Otago and at the Theological Hail, and about 35 years ago he was culled to his first charge, that of minister of the Pro..bvterian Church in Kaitangata. Subsequently he _ was minister at South Taieri and West Tuieri, and from the latter charge he was called to the pastorate of the South Dunedin Church, in connection with which he laboured actively and indeed indefatigably for many years. 111-health necessitated his retirement at the end of August last from the charge of a congregation, and latterly, as long as he was able to do so, he acted as official visitor at the Dunedin Hospital on behalf of the Presbytery. Mr Fairmaid is survived by his wife and a family of five sons, all of whom are grown up.
