NEW RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.

IN OPERATION FROM TO-DAY.

The extended railway time-table which has been in operation since December ceased on Saturday. The new schedule will come into force to-day. The most important points in connection with the new time-table are the alterations in the running of the expresses. Under the new service the through express from Invercargill to' Christchurch will leave the former place at 7 a.m., arrive at Dunedin at 11.15 a.m.. and depart at 11.30 a.m. This train is scheduled to arrive at Christchurch at 7.5 p.m. The express Will run daily, or as long its the traffic warrants its retention. The earlier express from Dunedin to Christchurch will leave hero at 8.40, instead of 8 am., but on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only. This train will also continue to run so long os the traffic justifies the double service. The express leaving Christchurch at 8.50 a.m. will run daily. It will arrive at Dunedin at 4.18 instead of 4,45 p.m., depart at 4.40 p.m., and arrive at Invercargill at 8.55 p.m. The express leaving Christchurch at 12.20 p.m. will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only, arriving at Dunedin at 8.45 p.m. 1 . The troin leaving Dunedin at 8.33 a.m. for Invercargill will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only. Other alterations in various country services are set out plainly on handbills, which are available to the public, and which may be obtained at the railway stations.

CLOSING OF MAILS. Tho postal authorities advise that consequent upon the new railway time-table, an alteration has boon made in tho time for closing mails for places north and south of Dunedin. Mails for tho North Island, which' previously closed at 10.30 a.m., and 11.15 a,m. at tho railway station, will from to-day bo extended to 10.45 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. respectively. These closing hours will also apply to all mails for the West Coast. Mails for all other places in the South Isund north of Dunedin will close daily at 7 a.m., and at the guard’s van of the early north-bound express at 8.40 a.m. Mails for Palmerston, Oamarii. Waimato, and Timaru will close daily at 2 p.m., and at 2.56 p.m. at tho guard’s van. Mails for Invercargill and other places in the Southland district will close every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7.30 a.m.. and at 8.33 a.m. at tho guard’s van; also for the same places on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at midnight, Tho daily mail for Milton, Balcluth'a, Clinton, Gore, Invercargill, and other places in tho Southland district will close at 3.30 p.m., mid at 4:40 p.m. at tho guard’s van.
