The tournament had of necessity, to be played off in the day, and where five players were included in one section, the winner was decided after everyone had played three sets. Court winners and section winners were matched in the order in which their games terminated, and byes were decided by the toss of a coin. Although this gave a greater element of chance than a straight out draw, the players lost none of the enjoyment of the day’s sport thereby. The tournament, which is regarded as the most enjoyable function of the association’s fixtures, passed off this year most happily, the only regret being that Dunedin possesses no ground that can accommodate so many players, a matter which it is hoped will be remedied by acquiring an area either at Logan Park or at the proposed new league grounds.
