BRITISH FOOD SUPPLIES
FREE MARKETS ADVOCATED. Pres* Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 15, At a meeting of the Home and Colonial Stores, Ltd. (one of the largest multiple shop concerns), Mr Emery, chairman, in referring to the proposed new Government Department of Supply, which was forecasted before the Food Prices Commission, said that if the arrangement was to benefit this country they must fix the prices of produce purchased, and they must bo low. He wondered what Australia and Now Zealand would say. The position; was that Britain was gradually being rationed, not as during war time by food controllers, but by the countries producing butter, chocse, meat, and tea. So long as the markets were free the public would never bo better served than it was to-day.—A, and N.Z, Cable.
