ANCIENT BLOOD FEUD

(Received Feb. 15, at 11.10 p.m.) An Alpine vendetta said to have originated 238 years ago culminated in the trial of a farmer named Jauch, the accused murdering another farmer named Aschwanden. It was stated in evidence that Jauch had been stalking his enemy for years before he found an opportunity to shoot him in the yvoods. , Jauch, on the other hand, declared that he acted solely in self-defence. He said, ‘‘Neither of us ever left our homos without rifles. I drew first, so where is the crime?” The jury returned a verdict of murder under extenuating circumstances a sentence of of 20 years’ imprisonment was imposed.—. A, ancl N.Z. Cable.
