APPROPRIATION BILL. REPORTED TO THE SENATE. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, January 7. (Received January 8, at 8.50 p.m.) The Navy Appropriation Bill, carrying 298,779,786 dollars, was reported to the Senate by the Naval Affairs Committee to-day. The committee added 896,350 dollars to tho Bill as passed by the House, but left it 7000 dollars under the Budget Senate action is expected shortly. Additional funds for ordnance snpphes, which item embraces funds for the Australian cruise, axe embodied in the new Bill. The committee increased the amount by 375,000 dollars to 12,107,000 dollars, which tho Navy Department had requested through the Budget bureau. This makes available all the funds which the department wanted when it contemplated the Pacific cruise. There is no mention of the plans for the visit in the report, and no copy of the testimony taken during the. hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee is given out, hut it is understood that the Secretary of the Navy (Mr Wilbur) apprised the members of the committee of tho plans when he was giving evidence. His testimony was practically a duplication of that given before the House Appropriations Committee on December 15 and December 19.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
