Manager of the LYRIC THEATRE, AUCKLAND, Wrote to Mr Gillespie, First National’s New Zealand Representative, thus: Lyric Theatre, Auckland, Nov. 5, 1924. “Dear Mr Gillespie,—l have been waiting for your return from Australia to write and toll you that, having seen ‘LILIES OF THE FIELD,’ it is not difficult to understand FIRST NATIONAL’S LEADERSHIP. “ ‘ LILIES OF THE FIELD’ is a production that stands right out in a class by itself, and in my opinion it is easily the best picture produced this year. “It is a super-production in every sense of the word: story, cast, direction, and photography leave nothing to be desired. The picture possesses an appeal that will be 100 per cent, anywhere. “Corinno Griffith’s artistry in this production will establish her as a firm favourite with all fans. “Although I screened this picture in its second week I have never before seen such pressure at this or any other theatre as on the Saturday evening. We were sold right out 30 minutes before starting time, and (no crowds that clamoured for admission were a sight to see. “ ‘LILIES OF THE FIELD’ has set a now standard of comparison among my patrons, and any exhibitor who books it need not fear any opposition. “Here’s hoping FIRST NATIONAL have many more like it.” THE EMPIRE ORCHESTRA.
