The Royal Commission which has been inquiring into alleged corruption in the City Council has concluded its sittings. It will probably present its report to the Government at the end of the week. ' BEAM WIRELESS STATIONS. SYDNEY, December 10. In connection with the erection of beam wireless stations, Mr E. T. Fisk (manager of Amalgamated Wireless, Ltd.) says the original announcement was not inspired, but was' an official statement issued by the board. He explained that it was intended to erect one station in Australia with feeder stations.
ROPE’S APPEAL, DISMISSED. SYDNEY, December 10. (Received Dec. 10, at 10.20 p.m.) The High Court dismissed the appeal of T. E. Rofe against the verdict in his proceedings for libel against Smith’s Weekly.
MINE AND COKE WORKERS’ STRIKE. SYDNEY, December 10. • (Received Dee. 10, at 10.20 p.m.) Following on the dismissal of two 'employees of the Corrimal Balgownie coal and Coke Company’s mine on the south coast, the remainder struck, rendering the mine and coke works idle. lour hundred men are affected.
