TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

MINTING OF BOARD OF MANAGERS. The monthly meeting of the Technical School Board of Managers was held yesterday uUcrnoon, when there were present Mr T. Scott, (chairman), Mrs Gumming, Miss Runcim.an, Messrs .1. Horn, A1.P.,. J. Wallace, J. J. Paul, W' R. Steele, J. tl. Wilkinson, and .1. Haymcs. The Director in his report for the month stated that, an intimation had been received that the Education Department would contribute two-thirds of the amount required, according to estimate, for repainting the exterior of the main college building and woritshop. He suggested that the work bo done during the vacation. Owing to (he scarcity of suitable workmen the erection of the building at Balmacowen had taken longer than anticipated, and although the holidays were upon them much remained to be done. Miss Melville, of the Home Science Department, who was now retiring upon superannuation, was entitled to special mention for her long, patient, faithful, and efficient service. Miss Niven, of the office staff, was also tendering her resignation as from January 31 next. She tiad been in charge of the books, acted as the accountant, and proved herself to 'be a competent, reliable, and invaluable assistant. —The report was adopted, and, on the motion of the Chairman, it was decided to forward Miss Melville and Miss Niven letters of appreciation for their past work. The Director of Education wrote in connection with the insurance of technical school buildings, equipment, and material, against lire.—lt was decided, on the motion of Mr Wallace, to take out a policy for £2OOO in any office chosen by tne Director. The Education Department wrote stating that the board's application for a grant of £l3B, 'being two-thirds of the estimated cost of re-painting the exterior wood and iron work of the main Technical School buildings and workshops, had been approved. --Received with (hanks. The Chairman reported that arrangements in connection with the opening of the G. M. Thomson wing and closing of the school, to take place (o-day, were practically completed. The Hon. W. Uovvnio Stewart would open the wing. The prizes would he distributed before the opening of the wing, and be hoped as many members as possible would be present.

The tender of Mr P. Findlay was accepted for the painting of the exterior of die school building.

It was decided to write to the Education Department and point out that pupils of secondary and private schools were attending the Home Science Department at the University, and to ask whether the department approved of this system. Tin's decision was arrived at in committee, and was confirmed in open board. Mr Wallace introduced, the subject. The next meeting of (lie board will he field on the third Wednesday in February.
