Johnson headed the list for the visitors (64 each), the latter registering the creditable score of 34 at 500 yards. Rifleman Jno. Halba (Bruce), who shot with an unreliable rifle at the shorter range, borrowed another _at the longer distance, and had the satisfaction of putting on a possible. It is pleasing to note the decided advancement made by the Bruce Club this year, and the good shooting shown by some of the newcomers. After a series of reverses, extending over a lengthy period, the members at last have had the satisfaction of securing victories in their last two contests, the former win being against Kiwi (Dunedin) at Milton, on Labour Day. The date lor the reception of Mangahao power in Wellington is growing close. Last Thursday the current was conducted by the high-voltage transmission line into the Government breaking-down station at Khandallah, where it is to be transformed from 110,000 volts to 11,000. The trial was held to test the line, and, in particular, the insulators, so that nothing will be left to chance when the full power is turned on So forward are the merits that it is probable that power will be available for the Hutt Valley on or about December 20. The city will be served two or three weeks later, as there is still a good deal of work to be done in connecting up the city lines with Khandallah 'by way of the Hutt road (underground), and, thence obliquely up the hill on steel towers to the new station. The second big frequency changer is now being installed at the Jervois quay sub-station, and will be ready for work at the end of the month. When the 52,000-ton Ounarder Bercngam was docked at Southampton, she extended more than 50ft beyond the length of the dock, both ahead and astern. It took 45 minutes to get her into position, and three hours and a-half to lift her high and dry.
