PROPOSED RESTRICTIONS. STORM OF PROTEST AROUSED. Press Association —By Telegraph—CopyrightROME, December 7. (Received Dec. 8, at 8.20 p.m.) The text of the new press law has aroused a storm of protests. The penalties include six months to three years’ imprisonment for anyone publishing false news which may damage the national credit at home or abroad, disturb the public order, or prejudice diplomatic action. Other offences for which penalties are provided are—-inciting persons to actions calculated to intensify class hatred ; and inciting to disobedience of the law relating to the libelling of the King or the Pope, or any of the institutions of the country or the national flag. —A. and N .Z.
