(Received Dec. 8, at 8.20 p.m.) The Egyptian press does not treat the plot in London seriously, and deprecates the publication of alarmist rumours when a calm sang froid is needed. The Residency officials say that Lord Allcnby’s telegram pointed out that the warning was based on rumours that were unsubstantial, but which could not be ignored.—A. and N.Z. Cable. TRIBUTE TO LORD ALLENSY. HIS SWIFTNESS OF DECISION. LONDON, November 24. The Daily Sketch, describing Lord Allenbv as “the new Napoleon of the Nile, says that he is acting with the swift decision which characterised his conquest of Palestine* An aircraft demonstration checked the agitation at Tanda, which is a hotbed of political unrest. The Governor of Mansura has ordered thrashings for all -students participating in anti-British demonstrations. TEWFIKIA TRAINING COLLEGE. STUDENTS IN REVOLT. CAIRO, December 6. At the Tewfikia Training College 800 excited students demonstrated for two hours. The new Under-Secretary for Education transferred an Egyptian headmaster to another post, upon which the students again revolted yesderday, hooting the English professors and refusing to answer questions. The professors withdrew and informed the Under-Secretary that they would not continue to instruct the students unless the ringleaders were arrested and an apology tendered, ine Under-Secretary dismissed 50 students. — Reuter.
