TAIERI RIVER TRUST.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust was held at Mosgiel yesterday morning and was attended by Messrs R. T. Sacld (chairman), J. R. Marks, A. Kerapshell, A. P. Fleming, N. Reid, and I. Lindsay. The engineer’s report, previously published, was adopted. A letter was received from Messrs Sievwright, James, and Nichol referring to a resolution passed on July 7 dealing with compensation for lands affected by the new works. It was stated that according to a report in the press the resolution was rescinded. If that report was correct, the resolution was a dead letter, and they had reason to understand that the Public Works Department so regarded it. They assumed, however, that the trust still considered the resolution to be in force, and that there was some obligation on the part of the Public Works Department to give effect to it. —It was decided to reply stating that the firm hail misquoted the resolution, and point out that the mutter was already in the hands of the Public Works Department. Mrs A. Campbell, Woodside, wrote complaining against her cattle getting on to the roads through the drainage workmenleaving the gate open nt the hut corner. She had been forced to put a look on the gate, but the workmen had taken it away. The writer asked that the hut be removed as soon as possible, or that the land bo purchased.—The matter was left in the hands of the engineer and the member for the riding, with power to act. The Outram Town Board wrote requesting farther information regarding the proposed rating of the Ontram Town District. It was asked whether the rate would ho on an acreage basis or an the capital value.— The matter was left in the hands of the chairman, Messrs Marks and Couston, to ascertain what powers the trust had of bringing the Outram Town District into the rating area, and under what conditions. An application was received from Mr D. Cameron, Outram. for a reclassification of his land for the drainage rate.—'Hie matter was held over until next meeting. On the motion of the chairman, it, was decided to accord Mr B. B. Couston a hearty vote of thanks for the manner in which he had carried out the duties of clerk during the absence of Mr J. T. Gibsen. It was also decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr Gibson expressing the hope that he would soon have recovered from his illness
