WAR FILMS.

AX INTERESTING EXHIBITION. An interesting series of official war films taken in action, by special permission of the Minister of Interna! Affairs, was exhibited at His Majesty s Theotre last night before a fairly small attendance. The performance was, on the whole, a highly entertaining one, but unfortunately the films were not as clear as they might have been on account of trouble with the currentresisting coils. This, however, has now been remedied, and there will be no difficulties facing to-night’s performance. .The first picture depicted the vanquished German fleet steaming up Sea pa Flow, and this was followed by several scenes of the Royal Family at sea. Tllen came a. series of films of several of the British admirals and naval heroes who played a prominent part in making history, and noticehle among these was-Viscount, then Admiral, Jellicoe. The seen© was then changed to the battlefields of France, and considerable interest was displayed at the of the familiar figure of Mr Massey, accompanied by Sir Joseph Ward, being conducted round some of the devastated areas. By far the best picture was “The Battle of Messines,"' which gave a vivid representation of the heavy German bombardment, with highpowered shells falling like hail and throwing up columns of smoke, dust, and deathdealing debris. A tragic sequel was a number of wounded being carried behind the lines by stretcher-bearers. Scene's at Anzac, depicting the lighter side of camp life, were also screened, and during the evening a humorous entitled “The Doctor’s Confession,” was presented by Mr and Mrs Gard’ner, and this was well received. Several selections by the Artillery Band, to which the proceeds of the entertainment will be devoted, were a fine feature of the programme, and indeed it was worth being present for these alone. To-night several new pictures, including some excellent views of the New Zealand troops, in Palestine, will be screened, and the “Capture of Messines” will also be shown. This will conclude the season.
