ROSEHILL RACES

BALLYMENA BEATS GLOAMING

WIN FOR NIGGER MINSTREL,

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 21. (Received Sopt. 21, at 5.5 p.m.) The Rosehill races were held yesterday in glorious -weather. The tracks were in good condition and fast. It was a day of surprises and rewards. The New Zealanders figured prominently, Nigger Minstrel accounting for the Guineas, with Bonaparte third, while in the Hill Stakes they filled all the places. In the first division of the High-weight Handicap Bosh took Fecond honours, and Director occupied a similar position in the second division. With Heroic scratched from the Guineas, what was regarded as Nigger Minstrel's strongest opponent was out of the way. •The New Zealander won handsomely, pulling up, by four lengths. The time (lmin 53sec) equalled the course record. After the race Nigger _ Minstrel showed slight lameness, and it is understood that he strained a muscle. Gloaming's defeat in the Hill Stakes was the result of bad luck, and caused much disappointment. Gloaming held a good position at the top of the straight, but got blocked when he. "was just making his run at the St. Leger stand, and had to bo eased up, losing ground. Ballymena, making the most of the opportunity, dashed in front. Gloaming, on getting clear, made a great effort to retrieve hi 3 position, but was beaten byhalf a neck only. Time (lmin 38isec) equalled the course record. The attendance was very large.
