FARMERS IN CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FEILDING, September 20. The Wellington Central Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmer's Union held a meeting at Eeilding, when some important cjuestions conc-erning the farming community were discussed. The members considered the recommendation made at the conference of Rabbit Boards actively prosecuting the work of rabbit destruction, and said that an amendment, of this Act was highly desirable/ but the Minister in charge did not appear anxious to deal with the matter. It was stated that some opposition was likely to be experienced from the Otago representative who -was not aware of any objection to the proposed amendments. In its present form the Act contained many anomalies, and it was unanimously decided to urge upon the Minister the necessity of dealing with the- amending Act this session. The activities of the Department of Agriculture with regard to the spread of cattle tick were referred to by the chairman, who expressed the opinion that there did not appear to be any co-operation between tie railway and tiie agricultural departments with regard to the transport' of animals from infected areas. It was decided to write to the Agricultural Department inquiring whether there existed any arrangements whereby the Railway Department only accepted stock and other animals for transport when a permit was furnkhed. The proposed amendments to the Fertilisers Act were also discussed, the Minister of Agriculture writing to the effect that owing to a large amount of legislation yet to be dealt with, the Fertilisers •Amendment Act should be held over till next year. The chairman stated that the Act was a very old one, and the proposed amendments had been brought up constantly for the last four years, and nothing had been done. . It was high time I that something was done as the matter was a most important one for the farming community. The suggested amendment had met with a similar reception 1 to those of the Rabbit Nuisance Act. After further discussion the following resolution was carried : "That this meeting of the Wellington Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union considers it extremely necessary in the interests cf the farming community that a Fertilisers Amendment Bill be brought before the House this session. It was decided to forward the resolution to the Minister of Agriculture, arid also to the dominion secretary of the New Zealand I Farmers' Union.
