EMPIRE THEATRE. A remarkable picture of a woman’s rejuvenation, “Black Oxen,” is at present being screened at the Empire Theatre The story was written by Gertrude Atherton and produced by Frank Lloyd, and the leading parts are played by Corinne Grifnth and Conway Tearle. There is a full list of supports, including topicals and gazettes, and a bright programme is contributed by the Empire Orchestra. OCTAGON THEATRE . “Singer Jim M’Kee,” the picture wfilch is now being screened at the Octagon Theatre, is a remarkable story of a remarkable man, and, like all Western pictures, it is full of incident and excitement. The leading role is played by William S." Hart, who is famous for this style of story, and ho is supported by a strong cast. The supporting programme is a good one, and a popular feature is the Octagon Concert Orchestra, under the direction of Mr Arthur Neato. CONCERT AT DUNDAS STREET, A concert which was highly appreciated by a large audience was held in the Dundas Street Hall on Saturday evening, when the principal performer was Mr H. Leslie Piper, who is a vocalist of considerable ability. In addition to possessing a good voice, he has received training at the Guildhall, London, and the Conservatorium. Sydney. The Rev. E O. Blamires, minister of Dundas Street Methodist Church, presided and, in the course of a few humorous remarks, apologised for being a few minutes late in commencing the concert, which, ho said, was due to a misunderstanding as to the time of starting, the prevalent idea being that the programme would be commenced at 8 p.m. instead of 7.45 as arranged. The audience had exercised patience, and ho was sure would bo rewarded with an excellent evening’s entertainment. He welcomed those performers who had come to assist Mr Piper. The following was the programme-Solo, “Arise, O Sun,” Mr W. narrison; solo, “Morning and You” (Aylward). Miss Jessie M'Pherson- solo, “Prologue from Pagliacci” (Leoncavallo), Mr H. Leslie Piper; elocutionary item, ‘The Song of the Market Place,” Miss Tory Jefferson; violin solo, Hungarian dance (Drdla), Miss Ngaio Garland; solo, “Pagan” (Lohr). Mr H. Leslie Piper: solo! “La Serenata” (Tosti), Mr H. Leslie Piper; (violin obbligato by Miss Ngaio Garland); solo. “The Muleteer of Malaga” (Trotcre), Mr J. Paterson; elocutionary item, "Napoleon’s Tomb,” Miss Tory Jefferson; solo. “Invietus” (Huhn), Mr H. Leslie Piper; solo, “The Valley of Laughter” (Sanderson). Miss M. Paine; solo, “Arm, Arm, Ye Brave” (Handel), Mr H. Leslie Fiper. Miss B. Hartley made an efficient accompanist. Most of the items were encored.
