EARLY ARCHITECTURE
THIRD EGYPTIAN DYNASTY. AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. CAIRO, September 18. (Received Sept. 19, at 9,50 p.m.) What Professor Firth, of the Egyptian Antiquities Department describes as one of the most important archaeological discoveries during recent years has been made adjacent to the famous “step" pyramid at Sakkara, near Cairo. It consists of two tombs and chapels of the third dynasty built in a style differing from Egyptian architecture in almost every respect. They are the earliest stone buildings known. Work has only been proceeding for two months on this site, which it is hoped will be completely cleared during the coming winter.—Reuter.
