Dr Had wen, an %nti-vaccinationist, who was prominent daring the smallpox epidemic last y©ar, was committed for trial at the Assizes at Gloucester on a charge of manslaughter following on the' inquest on a child named Nellie Burnsam, whom the jury found had died of diphtheria and pneumonia. Dr Hadwen stated that he had treated the child for a cold. There was no clinical symptom of diphtheria. He did not take a swab from the throat. He considered the whole modem germ theory bosh.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
