MOTOR MISHAPS.

BOY SEVERELY INJURED. (Pee United Press Association.) NELSON, September 12, While being driven home' in a motor truck 'from a home mission meeting at Riwaka a party of children from the Whakarewa Orphanage, together with the manager, Mr fctew art, met with an unfortunate accident, resulting seriously for one of them. When approaching Motueka bridge a motor car going in the same direction attenqited to pass the truck, and in doing so the truck was struck on one of the wheels, causing it to slide over the bank, a distance of Bft or 9ft- All the occupants were thrown into the gorse which fringes the roadside, but fortunately the thick, undergrowth broke their fall somewhat and also impeded the descent of the truck. All the children but one—Guy Baurke, ageo 14 years —were got out with only bruises and scratches, but it was found that Bourke had root with more serious injuries. The Bishop of Nelson, who was on his way to Nelson from the festival, conveyed the injured lad to Dr Deck’s residence, where, after receiving attention, he was ordered to bo removed to the Nelson Hospital.' ENGINE BACK-FIRES. CAR BACKS OVER SOFT SANK. (Peb United Press Association, j DARGAVILLE, September 12. ' Three men, Jack Vodanovich, Viscoe, and A. Jolly, had a narrow escape from serious accident when returning from Babylon to Dargavillo Vodanovieh’s motor car. They wore going through a cutting when the engine back-fired, and before the driver could do anything the car backed over a bank 50ft high, with the engine blazing.
