HOCKEY.

DOMINION TOURNAMENT. (Per United Press association.) NELSON, September 6. For the first time during the ladies 1 hockey tournament wet weather marred the play to-day, making the ground very slushy. The results of the play make a tie for the section winners in each section, Ruahine and Southland having to play off in the B section and Wellington and Poverty Bay in the A section. Wellington, after a poor showing against Nelson on Thursday, unexpectedly defeated Poverty Bay, who were looked on as almost certain winners in their section. Wellington gave a fine display, and ran out winners by 4to 2. Miss Swinburn, the fleet-footed Wellingtonian, made some spectacular runs, outracing the opposition. The game was fairly even, the first spell ending 2 to 1 in favour of Poverty Bay,but in the second half the Wellington forwards, backed up by fine back work, dominated the greater part of the game. Southland v. Manawatu was a very interesting match, characterised by fine passing tactics by the Southerners and stern defence by Manawatu. The Northerners first score came after the first spell was well advanced, but Southland equalised. The second half was hotly contested, and after repeated South attacks had been beaten off the defence was at last pierced on two occasions. Ruahine had an easy win over Buffer, and were seldom extended. The results are as follows: • A Section.—Wellington 4 heal Poverty Bav 2; Eastern 6 beat Nelson A 2. B Section.—Ruahine 4 beat Buffer' nil; Southland 3 beat Manawatu 1; Hawke s Bav 2 bent Auckland 1. The semi-finals in the sections will be played on Monday, and the finals on 1 uesday.
