DRY SPELL BROKEN. HEAVY RAIN IN THE CITY. Since the beginning- of this year the rainfall has been remarkably light, the monthly fall rip to the end of August averaging 1.73in.' During the whole of the present year there have been very few occasions when heavy rain fell for a number of hours, the weather, particularly during Juno,’ July, and August having been very fine. In August rain on six days accounted for a total of 32in. conditions being bright and fine, and with a- gradually increasing temperature. From the time rain commenced till 10 o’clock lastnight the gauge at the Pumping Station, Musselburgh, recorded ,79in. A good rainfall was badly needed in the city and the outlying districts, and the land generally will be greatly benfited. HEAVY RAIN AT LAWRENCE. (From Ocr Own Correspondents.) LAWRENCE. September 5.
