WOMEN GAMBLERS
THE DEAUVILLE TABLES. LONDON, August 27. A message from Deauville states that women, including many girls, are gambling with the utmost abandon, and staking sums of money that would make hardened men players gasp. A local jeweller, with whom women pawn their jewellery for the purpose of recouping their losses, is busier than ever. Several famous Parisian actresses are prominent at the tables. One won £8750 within an hour. Mr Andre Citroen, the motor car manufacturer, had a phenomenal run of luck, and won £50,000 in six hours. His total winnings are now £162,500. A Greek syndicate lost £150,00b in the last 10 days, £38,000 going to one player.
