PLUNKET SOCIETY.
DE TRUBY KING’S WORK. appointment of understudy. (Psb United Press Association.) rp, p. WELLINGTON, September 5. Ilia Plunket Society resolved that, in view of the increasing demands by the on Dr Truby King’s services, the need for an understudy should be considered without delay. Dr King approved ol tne remit, and mentioned that the PlanKet work was really a woman’s work. In his opinion, Miss Patrick, director of Plungel nursing, would malm an excellent successor to him. The conference decided to provide a bursary at the Dunedin Medical School to tram a student to take Dr Truby King’s place when his services are no longer available. Maternity problems were discussed Dr King reported that Mr MWilly, ' General Manager of Railways, had replied to the sub-committee regarding the request of a reduction on the return railway tickets for attending the biennial general conferences of the society in Wellington that a proper business basis would be to arrange with the Health Department for a, cross entry, crediting the Railway Department with the difference. Were this done Mr MWilly would do everytliing in his power to facilitate the concessions. Dr King stated that wards in public hospitals for maternity cases wore 'not advisable. He considered that it would be better to spend £12,000 on training 14,000 midwives now practising than sinking £500,000 in building wards. The following officers were elected:— President bins J. A. Johnstone; vice-presi-dents, Mesamen W. F. Massey, Jos. M'George, and Hosking (Wellington), Cra-croft-Wilson (Christchurch), Parker (Auckland), C. H.
