MINING.

MAJESTIC GOLD MINING COMPANY. The preliminary work of the Majestio Gold Mining Company, Maratoto, is completed, and matters are in train fon the commencement of driving on the main reef at the low l©vel—the extension of the present drive by lOßftft, after which a riso will bo carried up to the united level for opening up for systematic working the huge blocks of goldbearing ore which were developed by the companies that formerly owned the property. Those companies, however, were unable to work the blocks profitably, owing to the absence of the faciixtiea for economical mining which the present company has set out to prpvide. In recognition of the importance of the scheme to the proper working of the field, the Government has granted a subsidy to further the operations. All through the winter the company has been engaged in forming the necessary road to the mine from Maratoto Creek, and installing aircompreeaor plant to provide motive power for the rock drills. This work was completed last week, and trial runs of the machinery have proved satisfactory. Tenders will be called shortly for the driving of the first 700 ft along the reef—the beginning of a system of operations as to which eanguine hope are entertained. Th© company owns a battery on the United side of the mine, which will in due course be shifted round and re-erected on the Maratqto Creek side. Once the rise is formed, the company will be able to convey all ora to the mill by means of gravitation, and so will be in a position to work and treat the hundreds of thousands of ore now in sight in the most economic manner, and derive the utmost profit the quartz is capable of yielding.
