SIR CYRIL JACKSON. Press Association—By Telegraph—-Copyright. LONDON, September 4(Received Sept. 5, at 9 p.m) The death is announced of Sir Cyril Jackson, at the ago of 61.—A. and Cable. The late Sir Cyril Jackson, took a prominent part in educational affairs and tho welfare of the young. He was Central Secretary of the Children’s Country Holidays Fund from 1888 to 1896, and a member of the London School Board from 1891 to 1896. In the last mentioned year he came out to Western Australia ana occupied the position of Permanent Head of the Education Department of that State until 1903, when he returned to England to become Chief Inspector of the Board of Education. He was an alderman ot tho London County Council for several years, and in 1911 was elected vice-chair-man of that body, from 1908 to 19lb he was a member of the Senate of the London University, and h© was also a governor of the Imperial College of Science. He sat on several committees which inquired into various aspects of unemployment, and last year he was a member of Lord Lee’s Royal Commission which inquired into the Indian Services. He gained fame by going through a Paris Commune with George Odger, being sentenced to bo shot as a spy. He was the journalist who met Disraeli on his return from the Congress in Berlin and gave the world the “Peace with Honour” message.
