EAST TAIERI CHURCH.

Tho annual meeting and social of the East Taieri Church was largely attended. Rev. D. M'Cosh presided over the function, which opened with devotional exercises. Tho Allanton and East Taieri vmoirs and some friends supplied the programme, and the' ladies and Bible class members provided supper. Rev. J. Kilpatrick delivered an address, which was much appreciated, and the items by the choirs were well received. An item which called for special mention was a double nuartet by the members of tho East Taieri Choir. Miss f»haw had to submit to an encore, her songs being appreciatively received.

Tho session report referred to the spiritual state of the church, tho credit being largely duo to tho ministerial efforts of Rev. D. M’Coeh, whose pulpit work during the year had maintained a very high standard.

The Deacons’ Court referred to the necessity of strengthening the foundations of the building. Arrangements had been made to carry out the architect’s suggestion and effect permanent repairs. The estimate for the work was £4OO. In addition, repairs wore necessary to tho roof and tho building required some paint- The hope was expressed that when these repairs had been completed the building would bo secure for another 50 years. The year had opened with a small debit balance and closed with a credit of £62 0s lOd. During the year uio debt on tho parish car had been paid off, £lsl having been collected for that purpose, including £SO by Allanton. The work at the manse, involving some minor alterations, had been completed and paid for. Allanton had contributed £2O. A synod grant of £SO for manse repairs was due tliis year, and several important minor improvements were pending.' After much delay the improvements at the church entrance had been commenced, and £l2l out of £129 the contract price—was in hand for this work.

A special business meeting took place at tho close of the annual meeting. . Rev. D. M'Cosh vacated tho chair, and Rev. J. Kilpatrick presided. A recommendation from the Deacons’ Court was placed before the meeting that the stipend of the minister bo increased by £SO per annum and that a bonus of £25 be granted on tho past year’s work. This was agreed to, and the business of the evening closed with devotional exorcises.
