CITY POLICE COURT.

Thursday, September 4. (Before Mr J. R. Barktholomew. S.M.) Breach of Prohibition Order. —An elderly .man, James Richmond (Mr B. S. Irwin), pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk, and further with procuring liquor during the fcurrency of a prohibition order. —Senior-sergeant Mathieson said defendant was arrested in Filleul street at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday in a drunken condition. When searched ho was found to have in his possession a bottle of whisky and" a bottle of beer. Ho had been before the course for drunkenness about five months ago.—Mr irwin said an over-indulgence in drink had brought defendant to his present state. He had a wife and five children, and until the present lapse he had been behaving. He was a hard worker. —The Magistrate said ho would treat the defendant leniently, and fined him )6s, in default 48, hours, bn each.' charge. ' Charges Of ThefL —Alexander Lloyd, a youth of 18 years, pleaded guilty to a charge of on July 26, at Seacliff,' stealing the sum of £2, the property of Joseph Thomson; and. further, on August 2, at Seacliff, stealing the sum of £5, the property of John Christie Lloyd.—Chief-detec-tive Lewis stated that in consequence of several thefts at Seacliff, Detective Beer and Constable Haywood had interviewed accused. As there' were further inquiries to be made he would ask for a remand.— The Magistrate remanded the case to Wednesday next.
