SOUTH OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the South- Otagli Hospital Board was held at Balclutha on Wednesday, and was attended by the Hon. A. S. Malcolmn, M.L.C. (chairman), and Messrs James Cunuping, Alex. Rennie, J. W. Fenton, H. Simson, Jasper Clark, A. T. Harris, and Adam King. FENCING BAXrCI/TJTHA HOSPITAL « SITE. Mr Simson said it was found necessary to fence in both the trees and site, or else the horses would soon damage the trees. He also added that he was very much indebted to Mr Brough for the way in which he had helped him with the grounds at the Owaka Hospital. ADDITIONAL RESERVE OF WATER AT OWAKA. The Chairman said that they had a dangerously email reserve of water at Owaka Hospital, only two 400-gallon tanks, and he wondered if it were not possible to get a greater supply. Mr Gumming moved that Mr Simson inquire into the possibilities of such a scheme. —Seconded by Mr Bennie and agreed to. MILTON HOSPITAL. The Matron of the Milton Hospital reported that since the official opening there had been three in-patients, two of whom were remaining at the end of the month. The writer drew attention to the lack of screens, chart holders, etc., and said that she had explained the position to Mr Faulkner, but the remainder of the original order had not yet come to hand. Mr Bennie has been getting an estimate of the cost of a corner fireplace and an electric heater for the dining-room.—Adopted, and it was left to the secretory to obtain from Mr Faulkner the various details mentioned. — The Chairman said that the matron was agreeable to leave the heating over for some time.—Mr Bennie said he thought that the matter of heating should be looked ' into immediately. It was a terriby cold room. — Mr Clark said he would like to see the heating system properly tried out. The (department thought it was satisfactory. Dr Edgar, medical superintendent. Miltoa Hospital, reported that during the month of August two males and one female were admitted. . One was discharged, and there was one female remaining.—Received. The Matron of the Hospital. reported for the month of August that two patients had been admi tted,' two had been discharged, and one had died. These wet* three remaining.—-Received. T. Gordon, hon. secretary Sub-Prorinoiai Executive New Zealand Farmers’ Union, wrote stating that Mr T. D. Pearson, member of the Balclutha Borough Council, interviewed the executive in regard to a district nurse, and it was unanimously resolved to support the Borough Council in its endeavour to have a nurse appointed for the district with headquarters in Balclutha. It was also agreed that the South Otago Hospital Board should provide all the salary, any anyone requiring the services of the nurse should provide the conveyance.—The matter was held over for consideration at the next meeting. ’’ Dr T. H. A. Valintine, Director-general of Health, wrote informing the board that the Hospital Conference would be held in Wellington on Tuesday, October 7.—The Chairman was appointed the representative of the board. The same writer forwarded a letter regarding the cost of treatment of consumptives who have not established settlement in any hospital district, and stated that in future the Health Department would bear the cost of any such cases.—Received.
