A WOMAN GOVERNOR
BLOW TO KU KLUX KLAN. VINDICATION OF FAMILY NAME. Pres* Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, August 25. (Received August 26. at 7.35 p.m.) A telegram from Dallas (Texas) says that on the anti-Ku Klux Klan issue Mrs Miriam Ferguson has been nominated on the regular Democratic ticket for the Governorship of Texas. This is considered tantamount to her election, the State being strongly Democratic, in which case Mrs Ferguson will be the first woman Governor ever elected in the United States. Mrs Ferguson, who terms her triumph as a blow to the Klan, announced that she would oust all Klan officers from positions if they were elected. She sought nomination as a vindication of the family name, her husband being impeached for the improper use of State funds when Governor of Texas seven years ago. He conducted a speaking campaign on his wife’s behalf. —neuter.
