ARGENTINA’S TELEPHONES.
COUNTRY DISTRICTS WELL SERVED. A i gen tin a ranks first in South America in telephone service, according’ to a state : ment by the national superintendent of telephones (states the Washington correspoi dent of the San Francisco Chronicle). Forty-two per cent, of the telephone equipment in South America is in and the total line represents 51 pear cent, ; of South America’s total. Most of the telephones in use in'Argon-', tina are of English and American manufacture, a large percentage being made by’’ an English branch of an American company. " The service is concentrated in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe,' ' Corboda, Entre Bios, Corrientes, Tucuriun, and the territory of Da Pampa. There are 30,250 kilometres of general scrviqac line within the borders of Argentina, which, when added to the 640,150 kilometres used as private and railway linos brings, the grand total for the Republic to 6T0,130,.. Over 700 district localities are served,,.., It requires 70,000,C0& Argentina pesos’ worth of equipment to carry cut the needs,. , of the service, which, in turn, yields ,an annual gross revenue of 17,000,000 pesoa, ; and furnishes employment to 6000/employees. .■
