REMARRIAGE OF A WIDOW.

Undoubtedly the widow’s chances of remarriage are increasing. In a woman's younger years it is natural and obvious that the unmarried find husbands in greater number, but when women approach the ago of 40 the widow draws level with the spinster, and beyond that age she sails merrily away (writes H. B. in the Daily Hail). Nor is this an entirely new fact in the history of marriage. Even before the war she did the same, though rot in so marked a manner. In a year shortly before the war 2600 widows of 40 married, as against 2700 spinsters of that age. Between the years of 40 and 45, 2000 widows found husbands in the same period in which 1200 spinsters did likewise, and between 45 and 50 1200 widows were successful as against 500 spinsters. When they were between the apes of 60 and 60, 500 of those who won husbands were widows and 70 were spinsters. Since the war the widows have done better still. They have even reduced the age at which on the average, they find second husbands. Before the war this average was 41: now it is 36. Moreover, twice as many widows have married in the last four years as did in any four years before fbe war. It may bo difficult to discover the cause, but undoubtedly the average woman keeps her charm much longer than she did. Not only does she drees like her daughter, but she is, in fact, much younger than her years. She ehters into amusements with the youngest, and at the same time her equipment for conquest is more complete. JSot only does she know more of the world than most debutantes; she also knows man so much better.
