deprived of civil rights. MAGISTRATE’S STRONG COMMENTS (Pen United Press Association.) STRATFORD, August 25. ' At tho Magistrate's Court to-day, Lionel Meredith was charged under the Defence Act with failing to attend parade and with failing to return Government property Accused had previously been lined for 'breaches of the Defence Act. Ho was fined .£3 and costs on tho first, and 10s and costs bn tho second charge. He was also deprived of his civil rights for a term of five years. The Magistrate (Mr Mowletn) spoke 'strongly on the subject of young men evading their responsibilities in this regard. Ap.d said that Meredith appeared to bo erf a type who did not seem have any regard for a man’s duty to his country. If a man failed in his duty to his country foe was not worthy to be, allowed a vote.
