SOUTH SEA ISLANDERS

THEIR ORIGIN AND HISTORY. DR MACMILLAN BROWN'S INQUIRIES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, August 23. A message from Seattle states that Dr Macmillan Brown (Chancellor of the University of New Zealand) has returned there. He is studying the islands and stretches of the mainland on the North Pacific coast with the object of investigating the origin of the natives of the Pacific Ocean. He confirms the findings of Cook, Vancouver, Pollock, and other early explorers. He stated that he believed that because the coast Indians do not make pottery or grow cereals they came to America hundreds of years before the Red Indians. He declared that he had found a close resemblance between the coast Indians and the Hawaiian.? and the Maoris of his own country.—Reuter.
