AMUSEMENTS.
EMPIRE THEATRE. The principal feature in the current programme at the Empire Theatre is entitled “West of the Water Tower.” It is a powerful drama of reckless love and tho consequences. Glen Hunter takes the part of Guy Plummer, who is the. smartest boy in the town, and is attracted to Bee Chew, a part which is played by May M’Avoy, the daughter of a rich man of the city. They have a secret marriage, but the papers go astray, and when Bee comes home from a holiday with a baby the town is scandalised. The boy’s father, a minister in his zeal, adds oil to burning waters, but eventually the young couple arc made happy. The picture is adapted from the widely discussed novel by Homer Croy, ami is produced on a lavish scale, the cast being exceptionally strong. The supporting features are carefully chosen, and are well up to standard, while the Empire Orchestra discourses suitable music. OCTAGON THEATRE. A picture entitled “Drifting” is the headliner of a specially fine programme now being screened at the Octagon Theatre With great success. Tod Rrowning is responsible for its production, and it is r. dap ted from John Colton’s stage success of the same name. It was produced in Broadway two seasons ago. with i*A!ice Brady in the leading role. Priscilla Dean makes the intrepid Oissill a vivid and volcanic figure, and Matt Moore is sauve and immaculate. An artistic musical programme is presented by the Octagon orchestra, under tho able eomluctorship of Mr A. F. Xente. The same programme will be repeated this evening.
