ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL NIGHT. THIRD PERFORMANCE ON SATURDAY. The Y.M.O.A. is a body which is always assured of the public support, for its good work among the youth, of the city is recognised as a substantial factor in the making of the best stamp of citizen. But this was not the only reason why there was such a largo attendances at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday night, when “Jerques” was first presented, for no public, however sympathetic towards the organisers, will tolerate a poor show. Mr J. V. Hanna, the organiser, had seen to it that nothing was overlooked to make the performance worthy of the best efforts of professionals, and the result was indeed gratifying—a crowded house on Saturday night, wtmn many were turned away, and another crowded bouse last night, when a good many more were unable to gain admission. That the second night should be even .more successful from the public point of view than the first was further proof of the quality of the show, for had it been indifferent the attendance must surely have diminished. It has now been decided, in view of tho fact that many who so desired were unable to see “Jerques,” to stage tho performance again next Saturday night. The programme was well arranged, and it would be hard to select any particular item of greater merit than the others, for, apart from their varied nature, they were all fine examples of amateur talent, from the graceful calisthenic and gymnastic displays to the singing and instrumental items and the beautiful dances by the ladies, who showed clearly that poetry could be expressed by other means than tho rhythm of words. The concluding turn, “A March of Empire,” in which ail tho performers took part, was a spectacular scene of pageantry, depicting Britannia surrounded by her possessions, each represented by a performer in the national dress.
