AN UNWELCOME VISITOR.

DEAD WHALE AT NEW BRIGHTON. (From Our Own Correspondent.) CTTIUSTCHURCTI, August 22. Tlio first tide at New Brighton this morning brought up with it a 40 foot whale, which to all signs and senses, has been dead for several weeks, Tho enroll that arose from the carcase was one to ho remembered, if there could bo a worse one New Brightoninns have vet to experience it, for there were many who live on tho Esplanade who found it necessary at 6.30 a.in. to get well out of range. As the tide came in conditions improved slightly, for tho water washing over the carcase seemed to remove a certain amount of the unpleasantness, but even then those who were 100- curious and ventured to have a look at tho whale realised why the overy-day man would not go to sea as a whaler.

Tho visitor is tho property of B. Tosswill, wherever bo may be. Out deep oil its side is that name, and the Now Brighton Council would bo extremely pleased to see that gentleman and request him to remove his pet. New Brighton has not boon fortunate in its visiting mammoths. One arrived just before a Gala some years ago, and was looked upon as a money-making proposition. A tent was put around it and a charge waa made to enter and inspect. The hot sun shone down and performed wonders, and in the end tho money-taker found it necessary to leave his post. Some brave man at last found coually bravo companions and a burial took place. To-day’s visitor will be removed before it gets too well treated by tho sun.
