BRITAIN AND RUSSIA

THE LONDON AGREEMENT. SOVIET THANKS ITS DELEGATES. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. MOSCOW, August 21. The Soviet unanimously thanked the delegation to Ix>n don for its efforts in regard to the Anglo-Soviet A.greemont, and instructed the Government in future negotiations never to agree to terms ■which would place a new burden of taxation on the workers in Soviet Russia. M. Rakovsky (who headed the delegation), in a speech, contended that the agreement did not infringe the laws ot the Soviet in regard to nationalisation and the annulment of debts, as Soviet Russia would pay only claims which it recognised as advantageous to itself, or for which social justice demanded compensation. He predicted the ratification of. the treaty, because otherwise the property owners and bondholders would get nothing. . M. Tchitcherin (Russian Foreign Munster) described the treaty as a oasis for future relations with other countries. Miss Susan Lawrence (a member of the House of Commons) was accorded an ovation when she greeted the Moscow Soviet on behalf of British Labour. She said that the agreement was welcomed enthusiastically. She urged that the peoples of Great Britain and Russia should whrk closely together.—Reuter.
