STATE ADVANCES DEPARTMENT.
’ TO THE EDITOB. a IE _\Vo have repeatedly been assured by Mr Massey that no interference takes claee by Ministers in tire conduct of the State Departments of business. Your coliunns this morning announce that the Mayor of Dunedin has scoured a promise that the £SOOO desired for housing purposes will now be paid at once, although a pervious intimation notified that the turn of the City of Dunedin could not bo earlier than some months ahead. After the passing of tho legislation and the provision of the first loan of £1,000,000, the city councillors in Dunedin took two years’ siesta, while suen small places aa Hamilton mopped up £150,000 and built 200 houses with the Government money. Other places in the North Island also were more spry than Dunedin, which now sho has wakened up a little wants to romp in ahead of the others. If it is true tho intimation in your columns explodes Mr Massey’s Ixiast that no interference takes lilacs by Ministers, and that all applications are treated strictly in order of receipt of application. Is this justice to applcants that applied more than a year ago, and are still waiting? It appears to deprive them of their tarn. I am, etc., No Bluff. August 20.
