CITY COUNCIL REPORTS

At the next meeting of the City Council the following reports by the various committees will come up for consideration : The Reserves Committee reports -bat permission has been granted to the Now Zealand Institute of Surveyors to construct a five-chain standard mark in the Mancet Reserve, parallel with and close to the Princes street frontage. The work will entail the placing in position of six small concrete blocks, set in the turf, and will not interfere in any way with the reserve. The standard mark is required for periodically chocking and standardising all surveyors’ measuring bands. The General Committee recommends that authority he granted for the construction and installation of an auxiliary salt water storage tank at the St. Glair baths at an estimated cost of £3s—plus an additional £ls for replacing the present iron piping with copper piping. The- now tank wlil be built in concrete on the embankment above the baths building, and will have a holding capacity of one thousand gallons. Tho present tank has reached the end of its life. Tho filtering plant at the tepid Laths has been given a complete overhaul, and a report has been obtained from the city en ginoer showing what is required in the way of necessary maintenance and renewals, Tho cost, as far as can be at present estimated, will be about £ICO. exclusive of the cost of installing blowing down tank for the boilers. Arrangements have been made whereby tho plant will in future bo inspected regularly by tho engineer in charge of tho Drainage Board’s pumping station, who will visit the premises for the purpose at least once a week and report any matter requiring attention. The committee also recommends that the application from Messrs LTtandler and Company for permission to remove a hoarding in the North road near the Botanic Gardens and re-erect it on a property owned by F. S. Wright, situate at the | corner of North road and Frame street, I with a frontage of 50fl to tho North road ! and 25ft to Frame street, lx? granted. The machine is required to provide a larger production ot fine metal and screenings than is possible with the existing crushing plant, and will be installed at the Woodhaugh quarry. ’The demand for the finer class of metal has grown with tne adoption of modern methods of street paving construction, and will tend to constantly increase in the future. Tho city engineer has been instructed as follows: (a) Act with regard to a request from W. E. Lane for repairs to and painting of fence in Cauongate at an estimated cost of £9 15s; (It) act with respect to a request from Mrs F. Brown for removal ef bank from the roadway fronting her properly in Norfolk street. Record the undernoted matters for consideration with the estimates for tho incoming financial year; —(c) Erection of street light in G’ook street, Mornington; (d) request from W. Harvey for improvements to tho roadway fronting his property in Warrcndor atreet; (c) request from Mr G. Mondy for street improvements in Royal terrace. The Water Committee recommends that the tender of Messrs Leo and Ellis for moving a distance of approximately two chains away from the race, re-erect mg. and adding one room to the racemen’s dwelling at Whnre Flat be accepted.
