CITY IMPROVEMENTS.
GRAND HOTEL. Judging by the plans for the structural alterations to the Grand Hotel, Dunedin, it would seem that this house, once recognised as the dominion’s leading hotel, will bo shortly on its way to that proud position again, so far. at least, as the important factors of convenience, appearance, and the appointments that moan comfort are concerned. Tho structural improvements and now fittings are to cost £12,000. and at the beg inning of next month the expenditure of this big sum will have com monced. An important point is that a private entrance is to bo provided apart from the one that also gives access to the bars, nr.d within this entrance will bo the hotel office and the latest in electric lifts, by which oil the floors will bo served. The entrance vestibule is to be panelled, and it will have other attractive features in keeping with the general excellence of the fittings.. Other improvements include a vpof garden above the dining room, now electric fittings, and a host of minor alterations that will contribute to the comfort of patrons. lire new lessee, Mr A. Paapo, well known as a most progressive and genial host, assures the travelling public that during the extensive alterations comfortable tiecommodation and excellent cuisine will bo available at tho Grand.
