SCHOOL GROUND IMPROVEMENT.

BAZAAR AT ANDERSON'S BAY. Tie Anderson’s Bay School Committee recently decided to erect a retaining wall with memorial gates round the school, and to carry out other improvements, and with this end in view a bazaar was opened in the Presbyterian School Hall, Anderson’s Bay, yesterday alter noon. As soon as the hall was opened it became thronged with intending purchasers, and the well-stocked stalls soon showed signs of many sales. The hall, which was very tastefully decorated, presented a pietty scene, and the flower stall was a blaze of colour, glorious wattle blooms and spring flowers being a feature. The children’s stall, which included dolls, toys, woodwork, etc., made by the pupils of the school, also attracted much attention, as did the children’s and adults’ display of baking. During the evening, when the attendance was even larger than during the afternoon, Mr V. Neville’s orchestra rendered enjoyable selections. The bazaar will be continued this afternoon and will be concluded to-night, when Mr N. Tait will give a demonstration of juggling and hand-balancing. Hr J. Somerville, chairman of the committee, who introduced Mr J. Wallace, the chairman of the Otago Education Board, said that the board was always willing to assist any school which endeavoured to help itself, and, if the Anderson’s Bay School Committee continued its present policy, the school would progress accordingly. Mr Wallace, in declaring the sale open, congratulated the Anderson’s Bay School Committee on the fact that two of its members were president and secretary respectively of the School Committees' Association of Otago. He did not think that one committee had provided both officials on any previous occasion. The board was always willing to assist those schools which attempted to effect improvements themselves, Tho greatest thing in Otago was the keen interest taken in primary and secondary education. In conclusion, Mr Wallace said that he felt sure that the bazaar would be a great success, —(Applause.) Tho following are the stallholders: Flower Stall.—Mesdamcs J. Somerville, H. Guthrie, J.
