The trouble seems to be due to the diversion of water from Lake Michigan for drainage and similar purposes at Chicago. This has been on so big a scale that harbours and steamship channels have been affected. In order to meet the Canadian complaints, the American Government recently secured a court order preventing Chicago from diverting more Gian 41G7 cubic feet of water per second from Lake Michigan for drainage purposes.

A Wanganui firm is importing a consignment of Java sugar, which will arrive at an early date (announces the Herald).
